Pardew confronts the ref with video
Pardew went straight to see referee Dermot Gallagher on the final whistle armed with a video replay of the full-back's 55th-minute tackle on Jermaine Jenas - the man dismissed in similar circumstances at Arsenal last Sunday only to have the decision rescinded.
However, Pardew is not holding out much hope after being told by the official he still believed it was a foul despite Konchesky clearly winning the ball.
"If you are a football person and you think that was a foul, then I do not know, that does not wear with me because I felt he went to ground and won the ball cleanly before he even touched the player," Pardew said.
"I have seen it a few times from a few different angles and my opinion, I do not think, is going to change. I hope Dermot's opinion does because he seems to think that it is still a foul.
"He has seen the replay. I showed him three or four times. At the moment, I do not hold too much hope out because he seems adamant that it is a foul, and I have got to be honest, I just cannot fathom that.
Surely the FA or somebody has to have a quiet word in Gallagher's ear and say "you fucked up son, now put it right".
whubris said...What I found strangest is that the linesman seemed to agree with the sending off, despite the fact that he didn't raise his flag. I haven't seen it yet though.
whubris said...I talked to a mate this morning who is a Chelsea fan and he called the sending-off as "a disgrace".
Dave said...I've seen it - I watched 55 minute highlights of the game yesterday. It was a disgrace - he clearly won the ball.
The only way it could be deemed illegal is if they say it is a tackle from behind and that is not allowed. Not sure of the rules on that front. It's dissapointing if it is not overturned but not suprising - this is West Ham.
norven munky said...Having had a chance to watch and re-watch the incident now, it is worth pointing out that :-
1) the ref was 40 yards from the tackle upfield and his view of 1st contact would have been obscured by both bodies
2) yellow wasn't really an option open to him. If he deemed a foul had occurred it had to be a mandatory red
3) given his viewpoint and the fact he consulted the linesman at length, you could say the ref wasn't the main culprit, but then you have to remember Pardew showed him the video and he maintains it was a foul. A bewildering stance given he could save face by blaming the linesman. This way he looks like he doesn't have a basic understanding of the rules.
4) Shearer supported the WH players in telling the ref K got the ball 1st. Props to him for that. Not sure what Souness or the Toon army would have thought about that, especially if he had been successful in keeping K on the park.
