Forget about whether it was or wasn't a penalty. That was just gut-wrenchingingly, agonisingly cruel. We haven't seen cruelty like that since, hmmm, May 13th....

It was cruel and a little harsh - welcome to my world; England go out of nearly every competition in controversial circumstances. It reminded me very much of previous England campaigns where your team puts in an honest performance and they get cheated out of it. I felt sick when that penalty was given last night but there have been a lot of poor decisions including Materazzi's sending off.

I didn't think the ref was all that bad - I mean, the other refs were pulling us up for nothing at all for 90 minutes. Two bad decisions, and maybe one or two instances when he was fooled by a dive. It doesn't sound good but it's an improvement.
We've paid for Graham Poll again. If he hadn't sent off, Emerton would have played. Emerton would have put in better crosses, and would not have allowed Grosso into the area as Bresciano did. Oh well.
