Luck (and a linesman) smile on West Ham at last!
Our season might be long lost but we've got three points away from home and we've got some luck for once. The penalty was a penalty, IMO. The goal wasn't a goal. Their 'goal' was rightly disallowed. But I think the ref was doing us favours even before the penalty, but I have to say it's not before time.
Player ratings
Green 6 - maybe should have done better for the goal, and some dodgy moments, but came good at the end.
McCartney 6 - poor early on but crucially didn't make any really bad mistakes and got better.
Ferdinand 6 - can hardly remember him playing.
Collins 6 - some bad decisions but OK.
Neill 6 - weird game for Lucas. Positioning wasn't always up to scratch but made some cracking tackles.
Etherington 5 - AWOL until the 93rd minute.
Noble 5 - totally missing.
NRC 6 - absent except for a 10 minute period at the end of the first half when he thought he'd get subbed off. Had his moments though.
Bowyer 6 - didn't do much.
Harewood 5 - nothing like the player he used to be. Disinterested.
Tevez 7 - our only threat, but a bit slow in making decisions sometimes. Not given much support.
Mullins 6 - shored up our midfield better.
Zamora 7 - lively.
Boa Morte 6 - how much did we pay for him again?

I made a very considered decision NOT to watch this game. Of course I'm now wondering if I stop watching us all together we might stay up? Worth a go, I reckon. By the match report I didn't miss much of a game.

spot on with your player ratings whubris, finally we get a HUGE slice of luck and dont blow it, believe the weather made for the game being so scrappy, but i still ask myself where has this westham side been. To go one nil down and not just drop heads and say its too hard was a pleasure to watch, (same in the yids game). Who knows from here lol im still a realist, but was great to see us get a win.

Some luck at last! I'm getting pissed off with seeing that lazy vastard Harewood on the pitch - I like him when he's on form but his attitude right now stinks. Zamora has been playing really well in the little time he's had and it's time for him to start.
Who knows if we beat Middlesbrough next week there may start to be a glimmer of hope. I see Man city won whihc does not help but we are 8 points adrift of Sheffield Utd and if we can go there and win after bridging the gap a little then maybe just maybe. But as whubris said the season was lost along time ago - we need a miracle - but sometimes they happen.
Beex - please do not watch a single west ham game between now and the end of the season - you are banned! :p

For much of the game, almost until that penalty, the way we were playing was making me hold my breath every time they crossed it into the penatly area.
I was still holding my breath even when we wee 2-1 up.
Zamora's shouldnt have counted but ill take the 3 points anyday. And is that Optimism (however slight) im reading from dave??

Ok fellas, I need some clarity around this.
I've accepted that I am the jinx and will not watch another West Ham game, ok. But highlights don't count. I just watched the end of the game on Fox.

Great to have the win but realistically we are still fucked IMO. We didn't play that well, we were just lucky. Don't get me wrong, after the diabolical luck we've had this season quite franky, I think we were due, so I'll take it. But our game does not convince me we can get out of the shit. That and the fact some of those around us are winning ie Charlton and Man.C, still paints a bleak picture for me.
Onto the game, I'd like to make comment on a few players. Ethers is an absolute waste of time, honestly, he contributes absolutely nothing to the team at all, he has to be dropped. Oh how I'd love to eyeball Ethers and have a word! Same goes for Marlon and LBM. On the flip side Tevez was his usual self but for me Bobby was the standout. I know he's not the best but he changed the shape of the team and we actually looked dangerous when he came on. Unfortunately, I think bringing him on, as an impact player, suits him, playing the full 90 doesn't. What can you do?

NRC absent?....I thought this was the best NRC performance for a long time. He started off a bit out of it but he eventually started running with the ball through midfield and whenever he did we looked dangerous...especially leading up to the goals.
Not saying I want him to stay or that he hasn't been a lazy petulant little twat but I thought he was a big factor in us getting back into this game.
Marlon & Matty OTOH were definitely shite.
I loved the way Tevez won the penalty then just walked off and let the others squabble about it.
I don't care how shit we play and how bad our season goes, I would walk over broken glass for the priviledge to watch CT play..
When he is gone I am gonna right him a letter and get it translated thanking him for the way he has conducted himself and the effort he has put in every time he stepped out for us.

IMO NRC was AWOL for most of the match. Yes he came into it occasionally, maybe about 3 or 4 times. Box to box central midfielder - hardly. I'm not sure he touched the ball in the first half hour or so.
Be that as it may, I will be in the Pig n Whistle with workmates on April 4th from late afternoon to whenever I leave, if any of you want to catch up one last time for a brew or two.

All the best in Canberra G..we'll obviously still stay in touch even if it is just to disagree on player ratings ;-)

I'm with Tony on NRC - I thought his effort was ok but his passing was pretty stray.
Graham - with regards to the 4th it all depends on when this baby comes - it's due in 6 days so if it is late it might be touch and go but I'll do my best as I'd love to see you before you go.
Chrisky - Mate I'm up for it if there is a Saturday game on Fox between now and the end of the season which doesn't clash with my wife giving birth. :-)

Dave, remember to wear your West Ham shirt at the birth, on second thoughts it could be a bit of a life sentence! I was wearing mine when my daughter was born 4 years ago although it was totally unintentional (no-one believes me tho')My daughter is having second thoughts lately about whether she supports West Ham, maybe it's because Daddy cries most Sunday mornings when she asks how we got on?
