Lucas Neill will not sign for West Ham!
Period! Don't even dream it!
I'm pretty fed up with Skysports and their bullshit reporting. Today they understand that West Ham have jumped to the front of the queue for Lucas Neill's signature because they are the only ones who can meet his massive wage demands.
Don't buy this! Lucas is using us and our money as a pawn in his Liverpool contract negotiations - he thinks if he says West Ham have money and are prepared to pay this much for me Liverpool will give in to his demands.
Skysports = 2+2=5

The times
Neill cashes in to leave Liverpool frustrated
Liverpool have grown wearily accustomed to being outmuscled in the transfer market by Chelsea, but not by West Ham United. The Merseyside club were left mystified last night by Lucas Neill’s decision to reject them in favour of a lucrative offer from West Ham.
The East London club were also in the process of signing Calum Davenport to bolster their back four. The Tottenham Hotspur defender was undergoing a medical at Upton Park and is likely to move for a fee of about £3 million.
Neill, 28, the Blackburn Rovers defender, was also expected in London last night to undergo a medical before putting the finishing touches to a £1.25 million move that is expected to earn him more than £50,000 a week. “Lucas has agreed terms on a 2½-year deal with West Ham and is looking to the challenge ahead,” Peter Harrison, his agent, said last night. He is understood to have insisted on a clause in his contract that allows him to leave if West Ham are relegated.

IF this does happen - is anybody else concerned that he has little incentive to perform as he can leave if we go down?? That's what bugs me about relegation - the players get you in the mess yet they all fuck off when the ship goes down. Well all get left behind to drown for a couple of years.

Liverpool or London?
Besides, Liverpool won't win anything, anyway.

Norvern - how many times have I reported that a player has signed or is signing and it doesn't happen - I'm taking the opposite approach so maybe this will happen. So far though we've been left very dissappointed but I'll be very happy if this goes through. I am concerned about that relegation claus though - although I do concede we have little choice - we'd better stay up that's all I can say.

At this juncture relegation clauses are our only hope of securing decent players. Lucas Neill didn’t get us into this shit and it’s heartening to see him consider us, even though money is obviously a huge factor in his decision.
Maybe then Viduka's wife might fancy a move to London. Why not bring the whole family. Buy Cahall too, please.

Re: Newcastle getting trounced
On one hand that's great cos they have shown they have defensive weaknesses but on the other hand they are going to be up for our game at the weekend. I am hoping for a point - I think we need the Lucas signing to come off for that though.

Anon - yeah when I said about the players jumping a sinking ship I was more referring to the coles, defoes etc rather than Lucas. I went off on a tangent.
I agree we have little choice but to offer a claus but my concerns lie with the fact that he is coming for the money and has little incentive to perform as he can get his dream move to Liverpool in the summer.
The thought of luring Viduka also has crossed my mind. Don't think Cahill will be going anywhere though.
I'm just wondering how many extra Brisbane Hammers we'll pick up from this if it happens - could be just what we need :-)
Dave said...
If this happens I wonder if it will tempt Ben Haim on similar terms??? Yossi could convince him I'm sure.
I guess we shouldn't count our chickens - I'm crossing everything. :-)

if it happens should definately raise the profile of the hammers over here which can only be a good thing...
r.e newcastle getting trounced - agree with you there Dave - can be a blessing and a curse playing a team after a big loss...But ever the optimist I'm going for a 2-0 win with Boa Morte scoring both

Neill agrees Hammers deal
By Chris Stanton - Created on 18 Jan 2007
Lucas Neill has spurned interest from Liverpool and agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with Premiership strugglers West Ham.
Liverpool was widely thought to have been the wantaway Blackburn defender's destination, but on Wednesday night he agreed terms on a lucrative contract with The Hammers.
Alan Curbishley is desperate to strengthen his team for their fight against relegation and has offered attractive terms to Neill, though The Hammers are reported still to be negotiating with Rovers.
"Lucas has agreed terms on a two-and-a-half year deal with West Ham and is looking forward to the challenge ahead," Neill's agent Peter Harrison is quoted in The Times.
Neill's decision to choose The Hammers over Liverpool will exasperate Reds boss Rafa Benitez who hinted for the first time on Wednesday that a deal for Neill had hit a stumbling block.
