In Pards We Trust!
West Ham 2 - 1 Blackburn
Firstly we're fans - we pay good money to be fickle. Secondly I'm so pleased for Alan Pardew right now, the writing would have surely been on the wall for him if we had not secured 3 points this morning.
Pardew proved a few of us wrong who groaned as we saw Sheringham had been drafted in to replace midweek goalscorer Marlon Harewood. Yet the evergreen Sheringham played one of the best performances I've seen from him in a Claret n Blue shirt. He obviously lacks pace but everytime he was about to lose the ball because of it he managed to get some kind of touch to push it to someone in a West Ham shirt - and some of those were sublime balls creating some fantastic link up play which we have been starved of this season. And what a goal! Great chipped ball from the right by Yossi and a towering header into the top corner ending West Ham's Premier League goal drought which goes back to September 9th when Zamora scored against Villa.
Sheringham for me ever so slightly overshaddowed Hayden Mullins for man of the match. Hayden was a rock in midfield and to be fair has been one of the better performers of the season so far. And he deserved his goal for his endeavours. I can't see Mascherano dislodging Hadyen - it sounds silly but I don't think he has anything that our Mullins doesn't! But it's going to be good to have two options for defensive midfield once we find form and players can be rotated into a confident unit - note I said once we find form - I do beleive we can pull this together! This was absolutely vital the 3 points we gained this morning as our next 3 fixtures pit us against Arsenal & Chelsea sandwiching a tricky tie at the Riverside.

Pleased as I am to have 3 points in the kitbag, I'm still feeling far from rosy particularly about Pards..
He didn't do anything to change my opinion that he doesn't have the tactical nous to handle a big squad in a league as competitive as the Prem.
If things are going cruisy with Plan A he's ok. If the situation calls for something other than Plan A, he goes to the cupboard where he keeps his managerial repertoire and comes out with...well nowt.
What did he do different here? Different fullbacks due to injuries/suspension. And Sheringham up front to partner Bobby. Cracking header to be sure but as Dave said his speed has gone and he was just managing to scramble a toe to balls that (and here Dave & I differ) sometimes worked out ok. This was against an injury depleted Blackburn team who were playing away. At least half of the teams in the EPL would have chewed us up and spat out the bones. That aging toe wouldn't have been getting anywhere near those balls I'm afraid.
But back to Pards..a month ago he had 14 days after the Reading game to come up with a plan to arrest the slump. What managerial rabbit did he conjure up out of his hat against Portsmouth? Sheringham up front. How'd that go again? 0-2.
Against Blackburn today we were absolutely dire in the 2nd half. We rode our luck while AP rooted around in his Managerial cupboard looking for inspiration and after an eternity he finally made a sub...
Fortunately we got 3 points. Unfortunately Pardew got a reprieve from the inevitable. In a month we'll still de in deep shit, and Pards still won't have a clue how to handle a big squad in a big league.

Even though we're at home against Arsenal, I wonder how closely Pardew will look at Everton's away performance at Cashburton Grove.

This was a big one for us as I think we needed to get something in the bag before the Arsenal game. If we'd lost I'd have given us no hope in that match, but now that we've won I think we're in with a decent enough chance. All based on confidence.
Geeze I feel a lot better today about WHU than I have done for ages.

Norvern - It all depends which Arsenal show up mate - they're about as consistent as us (ok they're not that bad). On their day they can be devastating but they've had more than a couple of off days this season.
Personally if we can hold it together I think we may get a draw.

Had forgotten what it felt like to wake up, switch on the PC and find out we had won a game overnight...delighted we got the three points and the pyschological boost of moving out of the relegation zone (even this early in the season) Reckon we might sneak something against the arse - or at least here's hoping...

I think we're good for at least a point against Arsenal.
Given their need to keep up with Chelsea and ManU, a late winner for us might even be on the cards.

Won 4-2 (A) vs Sheff Wed C'Cup
Prior to the 3-2 away win against them (where I backed us at $8.75!) we led in with :-
Won 2-1 (A) vs Norwich FA Cup
Won 2-1 (A) vs Villa
Won 2-1 (H) vs Fulham
Won 4-2 (H) vs Blackburn
I can't be arsed typing out our recent form leading into the home game against them this weekend but there's a lot less wins and goals.
And the one win we have had in our last nine was not that impressive against a depleted team.
Things are still fucked and in all likelyhood we're gonna get an Arse wh00ping, (pun intended) come Sunday :(

I think the Upton Park crowd deserve a big 'Well Done' for the support they showed to the manager and the team.
It was pleasing to hear 'There's only one Alan Pardew'as they crossed to Upton Park this morning.
Positives were Richard Green in goal and Spector at RB.Bowyer's fit again
Negatives were Bobby Zamora and umm Bobby Zamora.I cant say the guy has no skill after some of his goals last season but at the moment he is plain woeful.The one on one miss was a shocker.How much closer did you want to get to the keeper!BZ should have been subbed not Teddy.

Good call Melbourne, loved the home support. You could really hear it on the TV, must've been awesome in the ground. I truly believe the support shown by the crowd made the difference.
Watched the game again last night, bit blurry eyed first time round. Good first half, shakey second half. We definately look better being more direct. When Yossi and Ethers were running at Blackburn things really opened up. When we had a slow build up we'd eventually lose possession.
Thought the back four were good. Spector and Macca were both were really committed to the cause, chased everything, tackled hard, when the ref let them, and got forward. If only they could learn to cross better. Gabbs and Anton looked in the groove, bout time.
Thought it was ballsie to play Teddy instead of Marlon, but it worked and it was a class header.
We had a bit of luck with the second goal, it should've been a goal kick, but seeing as it's the first bit of luck we've had in a hatful of games I'll take it.
Green looks heaps better than Carrol for me, he should keep his place.
Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, what a chance, he just panicked.
Very happy with the win, obviously, still heaps of room for improvement but we showed that little bit of extra effort, in periods of the game, which, by all accounts, has been lacking the past few weeks. Again, I think the crowd played their part in spurring the boys on.

yeh the crowd was great, i was there and Pardews name was being sung. The crowd were gettin quite restless when it lookd like we wouldnt get a second but after a bit of pressure the crowd was in full voice for the corner and it paid off.

Million dollar question RE the takeover. Hopefully, all that will change will be that we maybe get some extra cash to splash around.
It doesn't seem to have affected any other teams, Portsmouth, Villa, Man U etc. Chelski are an extreme case mind and I can't see the same thing happening to us or to anyone else.
I think that the supporters are the heart and soul of WEST HAM anyway, and as long as we don't desert them, we'll fundamentally reamin the same. Least I hope we do?

Dave said...Norvern - It all depends which Arsenal show up mate - they're about as consistent as us (ok they're not that bad). On their day they can be devastating but they've had more than a couple of off days this season.
Personally if we can hold it together I think we may get a draw.

Watched the game again last night, bit blurry eyed first time round. Good first half, shakey second half. We definately look better being more direct. When Yossi and Ethers were running at Blackburn things really opened up. When we had a slow build up we'd eventually lose possession.
Thought the back four were good. Spector and Macca were both were really committed to the cause, chased everything, tackled hard, when the ref let them, and got forward. If only they could learn to cross better. Gabbs and Anton looked in the groove, bout time.
Thought it was ballsie to play Teddy instead of Marlon, but it worked and it was a class header.
We had a bit of luck with the second goal, it should've been a goal kick, but seeing as it's the first bit of luck we've had in a hatful of games I'll take it.
Green looks heaps better than Carrol for me, he should keep his place.

Very happy with the win, obviously, still heaps of room for improvement but we showed that little bit of extra effort, in periods of the game, which, by all accounts, has been lacking the past few weeks. Again, I think the crowd played their part in spurring the boys on.
