8.5M bid for Scott Parker!
Curbishley has made an 8.5M GBP bid for Newcastle Captain Scott Parker as a replacement for the imminently outbound Nigel Reo-Coker. If we were to recoup a similar fee for NRC I'd say this was a good swap and a step in the right direction. Hopefully the barcodes will accept our bid as I think this is as high a fee as I'd like to pay for the player. Curbs is keeping up his tradition of signing club captains so expect John Terry & Steven Gerrard at West Ham by the end of the summer ;-).

Scott Parker from what I used to see at Charlton and lately is a workaholic all action midfielder. Good player. Can pass and shoot as well.
Problem is he appears to be very injury prone.
RC is a fantastic player when motivated but i think would fit far better in a spanish league team.
8.5 mill is a fair bit though, I mean Sulley Muntari who is a fantastic all action midfielder who i rate very highly, has only been signed for 7mill and Manuel Fernandes is another fantastic midfielder who was worth i think 7 mill as well and both are better players than Parker.
Maybe Dave is right he sees Parker as Captain material so if he stays injury free he will be a good purchase.
a general point, I think we really need to be careful who we buy, we have some good money to spend and should spend it wisely on some really good players. Not guys that are not much better than what we have.
any other suggested signings?
I still rate Vincent Kompany who is Rio Ferdinand with concentration. Plays for Hamburg. Would he come to a club like the hammers? Or am I in fantasy football land?

Lol..
yes a big fan BUT ive seen Kompany play for anderlecht before and for belgium and he is a tall, fast, athletic central defender who can use the ball. Perfect signing.
One thing that was hard to pick out was his reading of the game, because Ive only seen him a few times. Plus Hamburg had a crap year and he seems to have dropped off the radar of the big clubs who were all after him before that move. Thomas Doll the manager also left...plus foreign players seem more amiable to a premier league move than they did before.
Another bundesliga dude would be Nuri Sahin, who I saw play for turkey at the youth champs, fantastic midfield prospect currently with borussia i think, should take a look at him, if he would come to the club.

hey before I talk about SP I would like to thank Beggers and Dave for trying to get me a shirt, sorry I was so slack!
I thought SP was really good when he was with Charlton, an excellent hard working and effective classical central mid. Thought he got worse with Chelsea and Newcastle but still decent - hopefully Curbs can get the best out of him again. Certainly a good signing, just not sure about the $.

He's been injured at bit which bothers me but from memory he seemed a decent player. Not sure on the fee mind.
Really I was hoping for a more playmaking midfielder who not only was hard working but had skill to open up defences as well as chip in a few goals. Not sure the thunderbird fits the bill. 'yes me lady'. Maybe I'm being too hard on the bloke or to ambitious? but Parker just seems beige to me, I just can't get excited about it.
Another holding mid-fielder wouldn't go astray, Mashcerano anybody?

I think Parker is good business at 7 mill. I'd be surprised if Neill isn't our next captain tho.
How did the poll get so many votes so quickly..surely the majority don't think he will stay?
