Hammers snatch £6m Faubert

West Ham last night outbid Glasgow Rangers to sign France midfielder Julien Faubert from Bordeaux in a £6m deal, but only after the French club blocked a late attempt by Rangers to rescue a signing they thought they had in the bag. Ten days ago, 23-year-old Faubert had agreed in principle to join Rangers and went on a three-day strike after Bordeaux rejected an initial £4m offer from the Ibrox club. Rangers were ready to increase their bid to £5m but West Ham’s straight cash offer was accepted by Bordeaux president Jean Louis Triaud, who warned Faubert he could be frozen out by the French side if he didn’t accept a move to London. Faubert’s agent Philippe Sol said: ‘West Ham’s offer was substantially more and Julien was given an ultimatum by Bordeaux — West Ham or nowhere’

Hmmm! i agree with beggers on this one, to force a player with an ultimatium doesn't sound to good at all.Yeah transfers to the mighty hammers is slow but for sure it will pick up after this stupid arbitration is sorted once and for all

The “he was forced to sign for West Ham” is PR bullshit from Rangers to appease their fans.
Rangers couldn’t afford 4m pounds in the first place and he was never going to go to them, that’s why they bid for him. Rangers’ bid was all for show.

Had a bit of time to read about this since my first post. Seems that Rangers dicked Bordeaux around and West Ham came in with a firm offer. Rangers made an initial offer that was rejected and Bordeaux were waiting for an improved offer which never came. Step up West Ham.
Also seems he wanted out of Bordeaux and Rangers were the first to come in with a firm offer so it's not like he had his heart set on Rangers as the papers would have you believe.
On the official web page he's more than happy to be with us. I'm made up with the deal.
Anyway I've a feeling he's gonna do well for us. He desperately wants to play regular football for the French national side and to do that he knows he needs to play well in the PL. It bodes well for us I reckon. I've a feeling the crowd will love him.
Ashton and Tevez on the end of Fauberts crosses, well 1 NIL TO THE COCKNEY BOYS.....
The sides starting to take shape and looks well balanced.

Several players still waiting to be shown the door..NRC, Marlon, Konch?, Mullins?, probably Yossi too. Teddy has been released. Tevez is still 50/50.
The season is just over a month away and we have a *lot* of unresolved issues.
I'm glad for once we are holdng out for a fair price for the players to go, but I am very concerned at our inability to attract players.

We're still looking for players so it ain't over yet and there's still plenty of time. I expect there will be some additions before the season starts.

beggers - think where tony is coming from is that things are far from sorted. For instance you have Tevez in your line up - don't think that is foregone.
And why do you have Mick McCarthy at left back? ;-) I assume you mean McCartney?? :-) I think Linda will be first choice left back next season and our defence is fairly sorted if he can step up to that full time role.
Midfield for me needs more flair. If we are going to lose Yossi then we need a decent replacement and some cover. I'm not 100% sold on LBM - I hope we are keeping Matty to challenge that spot or signing a class left sided player.
Ashton is by no means certain to come back to what he was and Tevez will probably go to Real Madrid so that is your front line knocked out. For me we still need to sign a top class striker. I think Kanoute would be a snip at 7M yet we're not even linked. The guy won 2 trophys this year and scored 28 goals.

noble is going to be more developed and he is the tits...with marks growth (assuming) and this faubert lads introduction i reckon there is a fair bit of flare in the mid...although some decent covers would be good...i dont want to see any mullins esk shitters joging around

Not impressed with Linda or LBM. Apparently Neill can play left back also so maybe Flaubert will slot in at Right Back, dunno, seems more useful in midfield to me. Big rumours about Defoe returning but also rumours about him swapping with SWP. Dunno if he's got the bottle to return anyway but he is a quality striker. I think Tevez will stay but only for a season. I think there's a long way to go before we see the shape of the side for next season.

I'm anxious too about our ,seemingly, lack of ability to attract players but we're not the only ones. Some of the players other teams have just got are absolute rubbish. Considering this I think Parker and Faubert is not bad so far and hopefully after this arbitration nonsense things will open up for us 'cause I think that's part of the problem.
I'd like nothing more than to have a bunch of world class players sign tomorrow but any growth we experience will be a slow one. We're West Ham after all not Manure and as nuch as we rate our club above all others many do not and it will take time to change this perception.
I've gotta say the Faubert transfer has cheered me up no end. I think he's just what we need. Hopefully he will fulfill all my expectations.

sorry to be a doubting thomas but yeah he looks pretty decent in those clips but you could easily make up a bunch of similar videos with half of our team and they'd look better than that... e.g. Yossi, Zamora, Harewood, how many fantastic goals and moves have they done? Lots! And they're already with us! I'm happy we've signed someone but will reserve my opinion till I've seen him play (prob not till next season, no Foxtel!).
I think Mick is decent enough at LB but we really do need someone else for that position, and not Neill as I would rather see him at CB than RB even, let alone LB. Upson or Collins at CB with Neill and Spector at RB? Geez I dunno.
I reckon Tevez gone on the second last day of the transfer window. My big hope for next season lies mostly with Ashton, Noble, Neill, Upson, and Green. If those guys can have good seasons I think we'll be OK.
Parker, LBM, Yossi, and Faubert I expect to be good players but not match winners (unless Yossi can find his old form). Hope they do play well though as they hvae all shown promise.
