Davenport signed - Neill nearly there!
West Ham have signed former loanee Calum Davenport for an undisclosed fee. He has signed a 3 and a half year contract.
It has been reported that Lucas Neill has agreed terms on a 2.5 year deal but West Ham and Blackburn are yet to agree on a transfer fee. FFS - just get it sorted before the deal is hijacked I say!

According to my mate who's a Sp*rs season ticket holder (we've all go one!), Davenport is in the Ledley King/R. Ferdinand type mould (but not as good, obviously). He thinks he's been doing really well recently and is quite sad to see him go. I liked him when he was with us on loan and I think it's a good signing.
However, would I be saying that if I thought we weren't going to buy another more experienced, and overall better defender (Neill for example), then no, I'd be disapointed that Curbs saw Davenport as the answer to our defensive problems.
But the fact is that it seems as if a "better defender" is coming in either today or tomorrow, so as an understudy, i'm happy that we've got someone of Davenport's ability and potential."
Quite a few fans at totterscum will be sad to see him go, so it bodes well for us.

Blackburn are refusing to let Lucas Neill join West Ham unless they are offered Paul Konchesky in a straight swap.
Neill agreed a £50,000- a-week deal with West Ham after snubbing Liverpool, but Rovers manager Mark Hughes has blocked the move even though the Australia full back will be out of contract in the summer.
West Ham have tabled a £2million bid but Hughes said: "Neill can’t go until there is a deal on the table that I find acceptable.
"We have had offers of money but West Ham aren’t close. They know what we’re looking for.
"It’s players and not money I am interested in. Money is no good to me because I can’t spend it."

I'm as happy about Davenport signing as I am about Neill. They're both fine players. Neill can play anywhere along the back, and I've heard of him in midfield too. He's a good passer of the ball and plays hard. Davenport was gold for us when he was on loan. Gets stuck in but plays intelligently. Tall and good in the air. Both are a good age, with a good 5 or 6 years ahead of them (more for Davenport). Great signings. Very happy now. I believe these signings may spell the end of Mears.

But we don't yet have Neill Whubris! Only West Ham could agree a deal with a player before his club.
I am concerned that perhaps Davenport could be a confidence player and looked quite fragile this season. We need strong characters - if we sign Neill I'll be happier.

I believe that both these players are very good for us. Davenport did very well for us a few years ago. He is not the best of ball players but is very good in the air and this hopefully will plug the gap of conceding from set pieces. Agree with whubris, he may not be brilliant but he will improve us at the mo and so it's a positive. Neill is a excellent signing, very good player who is not afraid to get stuck in, which is exactly what we currently need (may also mean more hammers on tv over here). As for the relegation clause..... you do know that nearly all the players will leave if we go down....

We need Neill now. In the summer he can leave for free and grab a huge singing on fee and now have to hurry his decision.
He won't join a championship club in the summer. :(

Anon - it's not his decision we're waiting on it's Blackburn's - Neill has agreed a contract in principle but Blackburn are trying to force us to part with Konchesky.

Anon, its no longer about what the player is actually worth..its about whether they can help you to saty up and have access to the premiership megabucks..

I was watching sky new this morning as per ususal and the broadcast pretty much said he had signed, we had beaten Liverpool to him.
Got to work and no news.....
I hear they may way PK for as part payment I say yes see how how Mc Carney goes (remember he hasn;t played his natural left back possie at any amount of time this season and buy some experenced cover ala Chris Powell a couple of seasons ago, though he was first choice in his spell

Curbishley insists Mascherano is the only player likely to leave Upton Park during this transfer window as he looks to strengthen the squad.
The Hammers are believed to still be in the hunt for Blackburn defender Lucas Neill, who has also received overtures from Liverpool.
Curbishley has already spent nearly £10million this month and said: 'It has been a real hectic time. Every day has been full on.
'The chairman is backing everything we are trying to do. The people in charge have the right intentions and there is no thought about going down.
'It is all geared to being in the Premiership next year. I am under no pressure to let people go. It is all about strengthening.
'This is the most money I have ever spent in one season. It is the situation we find ourselves in.'
They're doing well fellas, lets just give them the time they need, like I said before, there are a few more surprises yet.
